What's Short Term Accommodation all about?

Short Term Accommodation a disability support service, with your stay planned around your goals, interests and the support that works best for you.

It can be a chance to build independence, try new experiences and enjoy time away in a welcoming and supportive environment. It can also give family members or others who usually support you time to rest and recharge.

Most stays are small group experiences for up to three people, depending on availability. This creates opportunities to socialise, meet others and enjoy shared activities. One-to-one support may also be available, depending on your support needs and NDIS funding.

Short Term Accommodation was previously known as Short Term Respite. We also offer Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) at our Alexandra Hills Lifestyle Hub. If you’re not sure which option is right for you, ask us and we’ll talk it through.

Questions people ask us

Can NDIS funding cover transport to and from a short stay?

Transport to and from your short stay is not included in Short Term Accommodation funding. If your NDIS plan includes separate transport funding, you may be able to use that. We’ll explain any transport costs before you book and can help you understand what funding may apply.

How many days of Short Term Accommodation can the NDIS fund?

The NDIS generally funds up to 28 days of Short Term Accommodation a year, usually for no more than 14 days at a time. Your plan and funding are individual, so check what’s included before you book.

What does Short Term Accommodation funding cover?

Short Term Accommodation (STA) funding can cover the disability-related support you need during your stay and standard accommodation. It does not cover meals, holiday packages, airfares, event tickets, entry fees or other ordinary holiday costs. You should only be charged for the supports you actually receive, and STA funding must be included in your NDIS plan.

What happens after I enquire about a short stay?

Tell us what you're looking for and we'll aim to reply within two business days. We'll talk through the support you need, your preferred dates, your funding and what's available. We'll explain the costs before you decide.

What's the difference between SIL, STA and MTA?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) funds support workers for people who need support or supervision at home 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Short Term Accommodation (STA) is a short stay that gives you time apart from your usual support arrangements. It's generally funded for up to 28 days a year, usually no more than 14 days at a time. Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is temporary accommodation for up to three months when you cannot yet move into your confirmed long-term home. MTA pays for accommodation only; support is funded separately. Myhorizon offers STA and MTA at Alexandra Hills.

Where is Myhorizon's Short Term Accommodation?

Short stays are based at our Alexandra Hills Lifestyle Hub, 21 Sussex Street, Alexandra Hills QLD 4161.

Who may be eligible for Short Term Accommodation funding?

You may be able to get Short Term Accommodation funding if you live with, or receive daily drop-in support from, your primary informal supports and they give you more than six hours of disability-related support a day on a long-term basis. Other criteria also apply. The NDIA decides whether the support meets the funding criteria and should be included in your plan.

Who supports me during a short stay with Myhorizon?

Myhorizon support workers provide support during your stay, including overnight support when it's part of your booked arrangement. Most Myhorizon stays are planned for small groups of up to three people. One-to-one support may be available if it matches your support needs, funding and availability. We'll agree on the support before you book.
