Community Participation

Take part in your community in ways that suit you, with one-on-one or group support. Our Lifestyle team can support you to build skills, meet people and enjoy activities that match your interests and goals. You can visit our Lifestyle Hubs at Alexandra Hills, Wynnum and Coomera, or take part in activities out in the community. You may also hear this called Community Access.

What a day looks like

  • A man in his wheelchair riding on the front platform of an adaptive bike along a waterfront path, with a rider in a hi-vis vest pedalling behind.

Try a class or a sport

  • A young woman in blue gloves smiling at the camera as she prepares chicken on a chopping board.

    Cook a meal

  • A kangaroo standing beside a young man in his wheelchair on a path at a wildlife park.

    Visit somewhere new

  • Two men playing electronic drums together, one laughing in his wheelchair.

    Do an activity you enjoy

One day you might try a class or a sport. Another day you might cook a meal, visit somewhere new, go fishing or make music.

Your support is shaped around what you enjoy, what you want to learn and the goals that matter to you. You can choose one-on-one or group support, depending on what works best for you.

You stay in control of the activities you take part in and how often you join in, in line with your NDIS plan and goals. You can spend time at one of our Lifestyle Hubs, get out into the community, build new skills, meet people and try new things.

If you prefer one-on-one support, you can still have opportunities to connect with others. We can help you find social activities, meet up with other people and take part in shared interests when you choose to.

Questions people ask us

Can I get Community Participation support one-on-one?

Yes. One-on-one support and group support are both available. If you choose one-on-one, you can still catch up with other people who have one-on-one support, if you'd like to.

Can I use Community Participation support one day a week?

You may be able to take part one day a week or at another frequency that suits your goals. It will depend on your NDIS plan, available funding, the support you need and Myhorizon’s availability. We can talk this through with you.

Can my NDIS plan pay for Community Participation?

It may. An NDIS plan can include Assistance with Social and Community Participation when you need disability-related support to join community, social or recreational activities. Your funding can pay for the support worker, but ordinary costs such as entry fees, meals and activity charges are generally your responsibility. Check your plan or ask your ‘my NDIS’ contact, support coordinator, or plan manager.

Do I have to visit a Lifestyle Hub for Community Participation?

You don't have to. We can support you at the activities and places you choose.

Where does Myhorizon run Community Participation?

Our Lifestyle Hubs are at 21 Sussex Street in Alexandra Hills, 29 Adam Street in Wynnum and 65 Beattie Road in Coomera. We can also support you out in the community.
